Ecurie Ecosse To Attend DRIVE Festival
It wouldn’t be a true celebration of Scottish motorsport, without Ecurie Ecosse; so, we’re pleased to announce that the Legendary Scottish Race team will be at DRIVE Festival with a display of iconic cars!
Founded in 1951 from humble beginnings in Edinburgh, in a small Merchiston Mews garage, Ecurie Ecosse are renowned for being one of the world’s best private racing teams.
Some of Scotland’s greatest racing drivers have raced for the team over the years, including; Jim Clark, Innes Ireland, Ron Flockhart and David Leslie. Ecurie Ecosse also fielded cars at Charterhall and Winfield; two – now redundant – local Borders racing circuits which were very much part of the Scottish Motor Racing scene in the 1950s and 60s. Fittingly, both circuits are within a stones throw of Kelso and the inaugural DRIVE Festival.
Amongst many successes, the team famously won the Le Mans 24 hours twice, in 1956 and 1957, as well as taking the Group C2 World Sports Car Championship in 1986 and the British Touring Car Championship in 1995. In more recent years, the team have continued their winning form – with titles in British GT and LMP3 sports car racing.
